Live Music Prize Finals on July 30th features an extended Patio, Budweiser Sponsorship,
Labatt Brand Sampling and 9 of Southern Ontario’s Top Unsigned Bands

Hamilton – The Live Music Prize is a new music concert series that saw 50 bands perform in cities across southern Ontario. The 9 finalists have been chosen and will perform what could be the defining set of their career on July 30th at Stonewalls in Hamilton in front of a panel of industry who will decide which band will be crowned the Live Music Prize winner.

Stonewalls, winner of best live music venue for 6 consecutive years as well as the 2016 Hamilton Spectator People’s Choice Award for Best Night Club, have applied and received a license to extended their patio capacity to more than 150 where they will feature a ‘beer garden’ style patio in order to accommodate the addition capacity expected. Nearly 400 people are expected to attend.

Labatt has joined the party with their music brand, Budweiser who will now be the official Beer of the Live Music Prize and will feature Bud Girls and sampling of various Labatt products such as Stella and Mill St.

Live Music Prize Offers Bands an Opportunity to Support Touring Bands
While Providing National Exposure for the Winner

Hamilton – The Live Music Prize is a new music concert series that takes place at leading live music venues in select cities across southern Ontario and will lead into a new 2016 music festival.

The organizers have secured a couple of headliners that will perform as part of the series, they include: International touring artist MENEW who have been featured on Late Show with David Letterman, had their music featured in countless current TV shows and who’s new single “Baby You’re Like a Drug” stars Joshua Jackson (The Affair) and directed by Joshua Butler (Vamprie Diaries). Supporting MENEW is AA Wallace whose new single was recently debuted on the Strombo show and is now at #7 on CBC Radio 3; and their video for “Shake it Out” was just put in rotation on MuchMusic.

In addition to MENEW, the latest signing to the United Talent Agency’s Canadian Roster, the Dead Projectionists whom Toronto music cornerstone Dan Burke (The Silver Dollar) has called them one of the city’s “best up and coming bands”, will also be performing select dates.

More dates and headliners will be announced shortly. The semi finals to the event will take place at Stonewalls in Hamilton on July 2nd, 8th & 9th, with the finals taking place outdoors in Hamilton on Saturday July 30th.

The winning band will start their reign immediately by opening up the annual Festival of Friends in Hamilton, currently in it’s 40th year, week following the finals! The festival is one of the largest in Ontario and has seen performances by the biggest names in international music.

The following month (September) will see the winning band record their performance for nationwide television on the Being Frank Show which broadcasts on CHCH and CityTV respectively, as well as on Rogers on Demand. For those unfamiliar with Being Frank, the show, currently in it’s 5th year, it is hosted by Frank D’Angelo, screen writer, performer, entrepreneur, actor and Director. Frank has interviewed such talents as Al Pacino, Paul Newman, Tony Bennett, Snow, Kevin Hearn of the BNL and so many others.

In addition to receiving a multi track recording of their performance, all bands will receive a variety of promotions as outlined on the official web site, which includes publicity services throughout the series as part of their participation. The bands have been selected for the official Hamilton and Kitchener Kick off parties, in concert with Y108FM. The selection is a mix of some bands that have been around for a few years, while others are just starting out. One thing is consistent, these bands are all looking to make new fans, which is exactly what the Live Music Prize aims to facilitate.

The Live Music Prize Concert Series Grand Prize Includes 40 hours of Production, Recording and Mixing at Famed Iguana Studios

Hamilton – The Live Music Prize is new music concert series that takes place in leading live music venues in select cities across southern Ontario and will lead into a new 2016 music festival. The organizers have developed an exciting new concert series for fans and bands to experience live music. Indie music fans will be able to explore breaking and mid-level touring bands in a high-energy party environment, having a concert experience unlike no other.

While the Prize is primarily a concert series, in the end, one band will be crowned the Live Music Prize 2016 winner and be awarded a Marketing and Development package valued at $25,000, including 40 hours or recording and mixing at Iguana Studios in Toronto.

For those not familiar with Iguana, it is a studio built by musicians for musicians. This year Iguana is celebrates 22 years of recording and mixing the soundtracks of our lives (and generations to come), making them one of Toronto’s longest running premier recording studio.

Iguana boasts a client list of Grammy and Juno award-winning, multi-platinum selling artists, Billy Talent, Nelly Furtado, Alexisonfire, I Mother Earth, Three Days Grace, Gene Simmons/Kiss, Sum 41, The Arkells, Cancer Bats, James LaBrie/Dream Theater, The Tea Party, Protest the Hero along with some of the world’s most renowned producers and engineers. As indie music fans enter the venue, they will be treated to a live DJ spinning the most recent indie and modern rock hits from the hottest, most current playlists. The Kick off Party’s in each respective city will feature a sponsored a VIP Lounge or a sponsored hospitality suite; with up to 5 top local bands performing.

Each event takes place at a leading club in each respective city as part of a thrilling live music event with like-minded bands, ready to give it their best to eager fans awaiting their music. Bands with the absolute BEST live performance will be chosen to perform in front of our crowds at venues in other host cities, while one band will be chosen each night to perform during future events for a chance to win the Live Music Prize.

Both the station and the organizers have come together to create a program  of exciting live events that take place in Hamilton, Toronto, Kitchener and Guelph at top live music venues in each city, including: Stonewalls (Hamilton), Cork Hall @ McCabes (Kitchener), DSTRCT (Guelph), and with Toronto to be announced. All artists performing in any of the currently scheduled cities will receive a complimentary audio copy of their recorded performance. All Hamilton performances and regional finals will be held at Stonewalls Hamilton, winner of the Best Live Music Venue for 5 consecutive years.

Select performing artists will have opportunities for interviews and songs played on Y108FM’s Indie Show, as well as inclusion in advertising spots on the station. Performing artists will also be considered for a variety of supporting slots during the festival, as well as during the year following the series and leading into the 2017 events, including an opening slot as part of the Y108FM 2016 Rock and Roll Picnic at the Festival of Friends.

The Series has already secured several community and industry partners as well as a grand prize, with announcements forthcoming. The organizers are currently working out some remaining bugs from their social network which will serve as a community for fans, artists and industry to discuss their experience participating in the Live Music Prize Concert Series.

At the end of the run, the organizers will produce massive outdoor party with 10 of their favourite bands from the series and award one of those bands as the 2016 Live Music Prize Winner as reviewed by industry, media, established artists and super fans/bloggers.
